Wenham and Boxford receive DER assistance to upgrade degraded culverts
On September 15th, 2017 the MA Division of Ecological Restoration announced that culverts in Boxford and Wenham will be receiving state funding to support municipal efforts to replace degraded culverts. The funds will help the towns design structures that meet improved design standards for fish and wildlife passage, river health, and storm resiliency.
These two projects were among 13 across the state funded through DER’s 2017 Culvert Replacement Municipal Assistance Grants Program. The site in Boxford is also part of DER’s Culvert Replacement Training Initiative and will serve as a case study and training location designed to help neighboring towns understand what is involved in constructing culverts to meet the standards. Stay tuned for information on upcoming trainings.
