This ribbon cutting celebrates a milestone years in the making — the removal of Old Essex Road and the restoration of natural tidal flow to the upper Castle Neck River. By daylighting one of the most blocked saltmarsh areas in the Great Marsh, we’re giving the marsh a chance to heal itself and build lasting resilience for our coastline.
Hosted in partnership by the Town of Ipswich, Town of Essex, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Partnership, and Ipswich River Watershed Association.
