King Tides and Sea Level Rise
The king tide is the highest predicted high tide of the year at a coastal location. This year, the main Atlantic/Gulf Coast king tide date is associated with the full moon on October 27. Sea level rise will make today’s king tides become the future’s everyday tides. EPA’s Climate Ready Estuaries Program is encouraging people to take pictures of king tides in their communities and submit them to the King Tides Project, whose website contains tips on photographing a king tide.
