A New PIE Rivers Partner
The PIE-Rivers Partnership is excited to welcome Seaside Sustainability to our growing list of Partners on the North Shore! Please join us in welcoming Seaside to the Partnership.
About Seaside Sustainability:
Seaside is a non-profit organization founded in 2016, dedicated to ocean sustainability and education through action. Based in coastal Gloucester, Massachusetts, Seaside’s initiatives include facilitating ocean-cleaning blue technologies, mitigating invasive species, and developing Green Scholars, an award winning education curriculum; and offering wide-ranging education programs.
Seaside is currently overseeing the Alewife Brook Sustainable Management Plan, located in the Essex River Watershed. They are also helping to coordinate the Chebacco Lake Coalition, in partnership with other PIE-Rivers Partners including Chebacco Lake and Watershed Association and the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Chairperson Alan McCoy speaks ““Seaside Sustainability takes pride in our ability to mobilize the community and convene stakeholders to make a difference. Collaborative efforts are a proven path to successful and sustainable outcomes which makes it possible for a wider range of people to participate and educate themselves in combating the issues which impact all of us.”
Seaside is currently looking for volunteers this Summer and Fall to help with stream clearing and maintenance, as well as spreading public awareness about the problems facing this watershed. In the future they will also be addressing more issues facing the lake, including but not limited to nutrient overloading, cyanobacteria blooms, invasive species, as well as sedimentation.
